Welcome to Les Verchères de Montdidier, home of the King Charles English Toy Spaniels, located in the south of Burgundy, France. We are breeders of these very special and noble little dogs - cherished by royal families since the 16th century. Don't confuse the King Charles with the notorious "Cavalier" King Charles, they are separate and distinct breeds. The King Charles English Toy is not a dog for everyone. They are aristocrats and used to being spoiled and pampered. With only about 3000 in existence today, the King Charles is a rare breed and only a limited number of puppies is available to people with discriminating tastes and who can provide the lifestyle to which these little royals are accustomed.
We are not your average dog breeders. We do not breed any other types of dogs - only Kings. We do not try to make any profit in selling Kings. Our goal is to preserve the race by producing the highest quality specimens for future generations and make a few puppies available each year to King "enthusiasts" like ourselves.
Just like all other dog owners in France (who keep more than 9 dogs in their home), we must be certified and registered as an official kennel and inspected by the Department of Veterinary Services (and by our Breed Club). We think the French system of strict regulations, licensing and inspection is a model all countries should follow.
